Sometimes books are very popular and I wonder how they made the best seller’s list. Here are a list of books that I think you should read and the books that are (in my opinion) not worth the hype.
- FAMILY DRAMA
READ THIS:
Why I love it: These sisters are very different from each other, yet I completely understand the bond between them. In Mira T Lee’s book, family and love are both tested against the strain of mental illness. Such a beautiful read.
NOT THAT:
Why I did not like it: Claire Lombardo’s story is difficult to follow and way too long. If there is going to be a novel that is over 500 pages, the characters need to be interesting. I found all these daughters to be annoying, irresponsible and entitled. I kept waiting for something great to happen and it never did.
2. HISTORICAL FICTION
READ THIS:
Why I love it: I was in love with all of the characters and the setting. I could not put this book down, although it did start off a little slow/confusing. This book has so many strong characters and made me want to go to Guernsey myself.
NOT THAT
Why I did not like it: I found this book to be a little boring and did not like Claude. I did not understand why Blanche was in love with him or why she stayed by his side.
3. Books by author Taylor Jenkins Reid
READ THIS:
Why I loved the book: I loved how Daisy owns her faults. I love that she goes after what she wants without apologizing for it, or caring what others think. I love that she had real talent and that she knew her worth and made others acknowledge her. This book had me wishing Daisy Jone’s and the Six was a real band.
NOT THAT:
Why I did not like this book: Although the book is well written, Evelyn is the exact opposite of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s character Daisy in Daisy Jone’s and the Six. Evelyn cares too much about what people think and will go out of her way to create a false reality, not caring who gets hurt. I basically read this book just to finish it, not because I could not put it down. I am well aware that my opinion is not shared by many 🙂 A lot of people loved this book, but for me, it was not worth the hype. I prefer Daisy over Evelyn.
4. ROMANCE
READ THIS:
Why I loved it: This book was perfect-Not too long, not too overdone. I really do not read a lot of “romance” in general, but found this to be a fun, easy read.
NOT THAT:
Why I did not like it: To be honest I really liked this book until I was about 70% complete. The last 30% made me so uncomfortable-way too over the top and repetitive for me. Diana Gabaldon should have quit while she was ahead in my opinion.
What books have you read that you did not think lived up to the hype?
